Sure, you're headed there to sail. But don't forget all the other good stuff to do in the crystal clear, warm, inviting water:
Snorkeling: Our favorite daily pastime, and a great way to cool off and get refreshed after coming into an anchorage. A mosaic of coral beds and swarming fish awaits. All you need is a few minutes, a mask and snorkel. Keep in mind you are only a temporary visitor to the coral reef environment, but your impacts can last for generations. Look, but don't touch, and never, ever stand on coral while checking out these fantastic sites: |

Diving: For those who need to go a bit deeper, or wish to check out the wreck of the Rhone, SCUBA is a great way to go, and the fulfillment of many a childhood fantasy (what kid DIDN'T dream of breathing underwater?). There are a lot of great dive spots you can access and bring your own gear, or have a dive boat from one of the local operations come out to meet you... |

Sailing: What the--? I thought we were already sailing every day to get from place to place? True, but don't forget sailing just for the fun of it. This might mean careening across the North Sound of Virgin Gorda where the wind rips and water is flat (and Free Luff can really stretch her legs, hitting double digit speeds!), or lessons on a sailboard, kiteboard gear, or a Hobie Cat rental. Kayaking: This is an incredible way to check out the beach scenery and reefs down at water level, up close and personal. Grab a kayak from one of these operations and have a morning all to yourself, or share a magnificent sunset... |

Just Plain ol' Floating: Some friends of ours turned us on to "floaties". Why exert yourself trying to stay afloat, making it virtually impossible to hold a cocktail? Grab some kids inflatable ducks, hippos, frogs, etc., wrap one around your waist (and tether it to the boat if a current is running), sit back, cool off, and watch the world go by... |
